The tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is a small shrubby tree and a member of the extensive Myrtaceae botanical family. It is native to only the northeast coastal region of New South Wales, Australia. For thousands of years, the medicinal properties of crushed tea tree leaves were appreciated by the Bundjalung Aboriginal community.
Tea tree oil contains over 100 plant chemicals. The main active compound is called “terpinen-4-ol” which is responsible for tea tree oil’s traditional use as a natural antiseptic and germicidal agent (1). Tea Tree Oil by Holista is guaranteed to meet the highest standard of quality and is an effective traditional herbal antiseptic for the relief of minor skin ailments and abrasions (1-4). In aromatherapy, tea tree oil is used to help relieve colds and cough, and as an antimicrobial (5).
